Province VII Grant
The Episcopal Church Women of the Diocese of Texas received a $1,000 grant from the National Board of Episcopal Church Women to benefit one of its primary outreach projects, Days for Girls.
The mission of the Days for Girls organization is to provide sustainable hygiene and health education to school age girls in third world countries. It is a non-profit agency that creates hygiene kits and educates girls on safe and effective use of feminine hygiene options.
Girls around the world without access to readily available and affordable menstrual products miss many months of school due to hygiene issues. To avoid missing school, girls have been known to utilize corn husks, leaves or other unreliable and unsanitary items. Days for Girls' goal is to empower young women by helping them to continue their education.
They do this by building a collaborative network of women's ministries groups and showing them how to make hygiene kits that are washable and reusable. "When girls win, we all win. The cycle of poverty is broken when girls stay in school," says Fran Lantz, who advocates for Days for Girls in the Diocese of Texas.
